How Long Does Window Tint Last in Florida?

Window tint lifespan is the single biggest thing separating a $99 tint job from a professional install. In South Florida, where film sits under brutal UV for twelve months a year, the difference shows up fast. Here's what to expect.

Typical Lifespan by Film Type

• ▸Dyed film: 1–3 years before fading, purpling and bubbling
• ▸Metalized film: 5–7 years, but interferes with GPS, cell and Bluetooth signal
• ▸Carbon film: 7–10 years with good color stability
• ▸Ceramic film: 10+ years, effectively the life of the vehicle
• ▸Nano ceramic film: 10+ years with the best heat rejection and clarity

Every package we install at our Sunrise shop uses ceramic or nano ceramic film, which is why we can back all of it with a lifetime warranty. Dyed film is the stuff you see going purple in the Sawgrass Mills parking lot, and we do not install it.

Why Dyed Tint Fails So Fast Here

Dyed film works by putting a layer of dye between adhesive and polyester. UV light breaks that dye down. The blue pigments degrade first, which is exactly why old tint turns that unmistakable purple color, and once the adhesive starts failing you get bubbles and creases that cannot be fixed. They can only be removed and replaced.

Florida gives film roughly double the annual UV load of a northern state. A dyed film rated for five years in Ohio can be visibly shot in two summers in Broward County.

What Else Affects Tint Lifespan

• ▸Install quality: contamination under the film and lifted edges cause early failure
• ▸Parking: garaged cars hold up far longer than cars parked in open lots all day
• ▸Cleaning products: ammonia-based glass cleaner attacks tint adhesive, use ammonia-free
• ▸Curing: rolling windows down in the first few days can shift or peel fresh film
• ▸Rear defroster care: aggressive scraping on old film can damage the lines

How to Make Your Tint Last

Leave your windows up for three to five days after install so the mounting adhesive can fully cure. After that, clean the inside of the glass with an ammonia-free cleaner and a microfiber towel. That is genuinely the whole maintenance routine.

Signs It Is Time to Re-Tint

• ▸Any purple or brown color shift
• ▸Bubbles, especially small ones spreading across a panel
• ▸Edges lifting or peeling back from the glass
• ▸A hazy look through the glass at night
• ▸Visible scratches or delamination between film layers

If you have failing film from a previous shop or a previous owner, we strip it, clean all the old adhesive off the glass, and re-tint the same day. Removal is waived when you bundle it with a new tint package.
